I relapsed

The rumors are true, I believe I spent the better part of a day clean… Quite a long time.. but unfortunately today I gave in and let my body’s natural desires overpower me.

The body is a complex and interesting beast… In order to encourage us to seek out sustenance it developed a taste for salt, water (hydrational nourishment), and sugar. The foundations of life. To ensure its longevity it developed mechanisms to literally heal itself past prime reproductive age. And of course, it developed the innate desire to procreate in order to Outlast even itself.

Thinking deeper about this, the idea of a bag of flesh knowing it will be outlasted by future generations of bags of flesh is peculiar. What reason would this symposium of luck, neurons, and blood have for wanting to enable others just like it to outlive it? And even more so, how has society strayed so far from our original programming that we now seek destruction of others just like us?

I do not know - and have no basis to make an assertion - if this is due to materialistic greed (a product of capitalism), the underlying nature of society in which we seek to surpass others, or merely chaotic evil that permeates and spreads when times are so simple and easy that artificial challenges must be bred. But, what I can assert is that the very mechanisms that led us to survive so long, and make us human, will lead to our destruction.

The transient nature of life means that we are just here for but a fleeting second, a blip in cosmic radar. We are nothing to the cosmos, and they are nothing to us. Everything we do, ultimately, is meaningless. Someone else will Outlast us to undo it, or simply do it better. A fitting encapsulation of humanity.

Thus, I have deliberated and found no reason to continue resisting my body’s natural cravings for items that can be considered by many as unhealthy.

I have relapsed. I’m back on the cheese.
