They told him he couldn’t
They told him that he was going to fail
That he would realize he never wanted it midway
That he would give up
They told him he didn’t know what he was saying
They told him he wouldn’t
They told him it was a daydream
They told him he would never
They laughed at him while he scaled the summit
They ridiculed his wind-blistered face
As he reached up
Toward the ice-capped peak
They told him he had gone mad when he kept going
Even after his frostbitten hands gave in
Even after supplies had been depleted
Even after all feasible hope of his success was snuffed out
They didn’t think he’d make it this far
They also thought this mountain
Would be his snowy grave
That this is where he would break
BUT YET,
Some intangible force moved his limbs
Some potent power from above animated his body
As he ascended
He had done it
He had reached the top
He had found his treasure
He had it in his hands
He touched the sacred fabric
And wrapped it around himself
He was enveloped in his divine duty
He had done it
They told him he couldn’t
They told him he wouldn’t
They told him he would never
But he did it
He did it?
He did it!
He did it.
He went blanky mode
